
PhD can be overwhelming most of the times. It is so easy to slip in the windstorm and not know when you have until the weight of everything comes bearing down on your shoulders and you can’t tell how you got where you are.
You can just slip away from everyone with the disillusion that you are alone in this and that no one can understand how you feel. In all honesty, I doubt you can put in words what you are really feeling. Don’t let yourself get swept away with all the ‘not enough time yet too much to do’ or ‘completing every task your to do list’ attitude. Loosing touch of the world around you is far more dreadful than feeling like an underachiever.
Pay attention to setting realistic goals and tasks to complete per time. When you feel, you ought to be left all alone to concentrate is when you are need keep up with colleagues, friends and family because they will help you through the storm. They may not understand your project and what you are going through but they will be there for you and that is vital for your emotional health. Let me say that while you need your mental health to be in tact, your emotional health should not be disregarded. You need all aspect of your life to thrive if you want to be productive.
Easy does it! One step at a time, reach out to one colleague, one friend. Take a break, don’t get swept away by how overwhelming the pursuit for a PhD can be.
